Title: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: Rageness on February 22, 2009, 12:23:47 AM I have Yahelite Full Version, working on Ubuntu linux 8.10 Ibex, just as good if not better than it runs on a Windows based machine. Including webcams and Voice chat. Instead of just telling you how to get Voice working I'll go through a step by step install, thats gets rid of the scroll bar bug, and the mushy text.
First you will need the tools. You can install the latest version of wine through the repository/synaptic package manager. After you install wine click on the wine configuration link in the menu and select the audio tab. Click Alsa driver, and under directsound set it to full hardware acceleration / 48000 sample rate / 16 bit / Driver emulation. Next download wine-doors http://wddb.wine-doors.org/ grab the latest version, and dont worry, they have a deb install version for lazy people. Install wine-doors, and then use it to install "Native Rich Text Editor Support 30". This gets rid of the scrollbar bug, and cleans up the text. Also DCOM 98 seems to make it more stable for some reason, so install that too. If you want to run other yahoo type programs you can also install c++ runtimes and vb runtimes while your at it. I also installed all the windows fonts while I had it open, but thats totaly up to you. A good looking font for Yahelite is Deja vu sans, which is what I use. Now for the fun stuff. You will need to copy tssoft32.acm and tsd32.dll from a windows machine, or google search a download for them, which is what I did, and put them in the wine/windows/system32 folder. After you do this open the system.ini file in the windows folder and right under where it says drivers, copy and paste this line "MSACM.trspch=tssoft32.acm". Download YCabby from the YahElite web site and run it changing the H: to a C:. I had to manual download each section by itself in order to get it to run, putting each cab in the YCabby folder and then running YCabby again to register and install the dll's. Next download the latest full version of Yahelite and install it. If all goes right you have a smooth running chat client with webcam support, and a good strong VC, that seems like it was made to run on Ubuntu Linux!!! Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: yup_yup_its_lee on February 22, 2009, 12:40:23 AM Does running yahelite through Ubuntu linux stop the booting?
Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: Dermot on February 22, 2009, 01:12:32 AM thanks rage, will try it soon. :) Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: winsock.kernel on February 22, 2009, 11:52:42 AM That's brilliant.
Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: Rageness on February 22, 2009, 12:15:44 PM yup_yup_its_lee > Not sure it makes any differance as far as the booting stuff goes, but for some reason the VC seems to be stronger than on a windows system. I was testing it out last night in some rooms and I was able to hold/take the mic more than what should be the norm. If your into having a strong VC and not having it took away from you, then this should be of some interest.
Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: Venom on February 22, 2009, 09:39:51 PM No, the disconnection from the booting occurs server-side.
Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: yup_yup_its_lee on February 22, 2009, 11:45:12 PM Are the servers on the options list, the only servers we have?
Rage, that sounds like a great thing, ill try it if i can stay in a room long enough lol Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: spitemeister on February 23, 2009, 11:22:48 AM Nice one I'll give it a whirl! Kinda like the quest for the elusive Holy Grail VC and Cam on Linux. But have you got the smileys working yet?
Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: Rageness on February 23, 2009, 04:49:12 PM You know what? I think the smileys thing should be an easy fix, Ive never even really thought about it, but Ill give it a whirl.
Oh yeah and I been trying for over a year to get VC and Cams working. I would give up for awhile then go back and tear my hair out. And to think it was something so simple as adding 2 files and adding a line in the ini. I feel stupid and clever all at the same time. Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: spitemeister on February 24, 2009, 03:52:05 AM I know what you mean. My wife says I'm like a bulldog with a bone once I get my sights set on achieving a goal. And when you do and the fix is blindingly simple that a sharp heel of the hand to the forehead is often required. Well done all the same.
Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: Dermot on February 24, 2009, 08:20:16 AM YCabby refuses to work on here Suppose i will have to download each file individually and put them in system32 Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: Dermot on February 24, 2009, 03:03:20 PM I have yahvox connected and listing chatters but my mic wont activate on clicking it aka it presses but doesnt show indication of keying up i think it because my card would be different and the fact you dont have a dual boot rage it worked so easy for you that and the fact my cams have mics too and the volume control is a nightmare capture capture 1 capture 2 etc lol Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: Rageness on February 24, 2009, 04:37:06 PM Derm,
One of the things I was messing with was the msgsm32.acm maybe adding that file and the line MSACM.msgsm610=msgsm32.acm under your driver section of your system.ini, may fix your problem. As far as YCabby goes its a big pain in the butt to run. I had to download each section serperatly to the YCabby folder, then run YCabby again to get it to install and register the files. I ran each download in my browser and just put each cab file in the YCabby folder. Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: spitemeister on February 25, 2009, 03:01:38 AM Administrators:- Should this thread be moved to the Emulators Linux, Mac, Wine section?
Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: spitemeister on February 25, 2009, 07:55:56 AM Well I'm struggling here. I have all three .cab files in YCABBY folder and ran it after. Still no VC. how do you have WINE set up Rage? I tried XP and 98 modes.
Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: Rageness on February 25, 2009, 04:44:15 PM windows 2000 as the default setting, in audio config I have it set at full hardware acceleration / 48000 / 16 bit / and driver emulation ticked. Alsa Driver. In my last post to Dermot, I noticed I still have MSACM.msgsm610=msgsm32.acm listed in my system.in drivers, and msgsm32.acm still in my system32 folder, although I think that has something to do with the push to talk end of it. I also have an ac97 sound card. ICH6 set up as system sound. I was thinking of finding a way to just zip my whole system32 folder, and what not, and send it to Dermot LOL. Dermot now has sound in VC but no PTT ability. Ill find an easy way to zip up everything needed, send it to Dermot and if it works for him Ill pass it on.
Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: spitemeister on February 26, 2009, 08:29:20 AM Thanks. In the meantime I'll keep playing with the settings.
I did get a msls31.dll error so I'll grab that and install it see if that helps. Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: Dermot on February 27, 2009, 06:55:55 AM Smileys will crash yahelite , specially animated ones if you try and type one yahelite will crash if you try and open the panel yahelite will crash if someone else types one, yahelite will crash will try bmps later Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: Rageness on February 28, 2009, 09:50:02 PM Heres a copy of the files I used. They are in the folders that you need to put them in.
http://www.4shared.com/file/90080629/31a2740b/YahEliteFiles.html I hope this helps a few people out there who would like to ditch Windows, but don't wanna be left using Gyachi or Zinc as the only Y! Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: Carbonize on March 08, 2009, 10:07:46 AM Actually I was quite impressed with Gyachi when I tried it out. If anybody does want to try Ubuntu (or Kubuntu or even Xubuntu) then goto http://wubi.sourceforge.net which will download the files, create a virtual partition on your hard drive and then set up the options to dual boot between Windows and Ubuntu.
<edit>fixed url due to my being braindead at the time of posting</edit> Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: Carbonize on March 12, 2009, 01:02:19 PM Yeah that as well.
Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: spitemeister on March 13, 2009, 04:09:21 AM If you boot up windows and put in the live CD for (X/K)Ubuntu8.10 it will give you the option to install inside windows using WUBI.

James: You can download all the files I added here..http://www.4shared.com/file/90080629/31a2740b/YahEliteFiles.html?s=1 Since winedoors is down at the moment you can use winetricks from command line run wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks And ad the following from command line sh winetricks dcom98 sh winetricks allfonts sh winetricks riched30 sh winetricks riched20 Once you get the hang of wine and linux you can also theme wine to match your linux theme so its not so fugly! If you have anymore troubles, Im in and out of Pickup Bar:1 In the evening, Ill be glad to help. Or you can try my messenger ID "rageness". Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: _James on May 05, 2009, 01:20:06 PM ok i'll try that, thanks alot
Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! Post by: silentbob on May 15, 2009, 09:22:23 AM I was kind of curious weather using the Gcabby installer would perhaps work instead of dragging the cab files by hand and using ycabby to register them? :D Considering that Gcab.exe was intended for yahelite ;D I'm only mentioning this in case no one has tried it yet ... :tumbleweed: i'll post an update when i try it :P
{{{{update}}}} turns out Wine-Doors is dead for the time being site is down so no packages even load... some one suggested wine tricks ...whole lotta console trash goes into using that so i'm kinda at a loss. and gcab.exe is no more useful other than to put the files int he right place ...manualy regestering them is prolly a better option than an automated process at this point Title: Re: YahElite on Ubuntu Linux with VC and Cams!!! This tutorial, to include a few others is missing some things. Needed dll files and what not... I created a program that does all of this for you the right way. Let me know if it has any bugs. So far it's been working fine. My email is in the read me file. PS: add an "h" to the beginning of the link. |
