I'm hoping to find out if its possible to put Yahvox through a proxy.  I have password access to the proxy but because there is no place to enter these details so I can't get a connection through.  Is there anyway around this, or any alternative to it?

Thanks

In YahELite's menu, click on Options, then Firewall and Proxy. Tick the Use SOCKS proxy server check box. Put your SOCKS proxy in there and hit OK.
If you can't see the Firewall and Proxy, in Options click on Expert, then you are able to see Firewall and Proxy.
Good luck.

I have tried this and gotten it to work, however the lag time increases dramatically. I am not sure if this method also sends YahVox packets through the proxy, or if it just sends the YahElite chat client packets alone through the proxy.

The problem is that I have to login to the authenticating proxy.  So socks 5 won't work without logging into the proxy first.  It is a university proxy.  I tried VPN (itshidden) but it won't establish a connection to the server.  It is a HTTP tunnel.

Is there anyway of getting voice through the tunnel?

Thanks

Try this in your hosts file: 68.142.226.73 vc.yahoo.com

it doesn't seem to be working.

I'm using a software called HttpTunnel to get through the proxy and that is acting as a Sock4 server which it supports.

I tried modifying the hosts file didn't work either.

Is there anyway to authenticate yahvox?  or redirect it through a proxy?  Nothing seems to work.  Its such a restrictive piece of software on yahoo messenger and yahvox.

A slightly different question is it possible to connect to voice chat with yahvox, without using yahelite?

This university secure proxy that you're behind, does it require username + password authentication in order for ALL the traffic (TCP packets, UDP packets, ICMP etc) to be relayed out to the destinations (over the internet) or just for specific services? Do you have to type in your username and password to connect to the secure proxy before you can do anything? Are you able to use your own computer(s) to connect to the university proxy server and use it's resources or are you actually using one of the university's own computers? If you're using one of theirs then it may have a pre-installed traffic relaying agent running (ie. a HTTP Tunnel client service) or another solution.

Assuming that your uni's secure proxy isn't a homebrewed filtering relay of some sort, I can tell you it isn't a SOCKS4 or even a SOCKS4a proxy server just based on the fact that you're being required to supply a password for authentication (SOCKS4/4a proxies only have support for username auth, not passwords). It's likely that you may be connecting to a SOCKS5 proxy server with egress and/or ingress content filtering and other restrictions in place. It's apparently set up to only allow connections to certain domains or packets destined for certain ports/services.

I'm under the impression that you're already able to connect with YahELite and sign into Yahoo! Chat, just not voice, right? If so... how are you doing it? Are you connecting to your university's proxy through YahELite's SOCKS5 client configuration (supplying your username and password) and it's allowing you to sign in or can you not get both text chat and voice to work? There's options you can use to get this working if you can provide some more details about it.

YahELite needs to be able to proxy BOTH YMSG chat packets and voice packets (multiple connections) so they're sent to your university's proxy. It sounds like YahELite might only be proxying the chat connection data if you're unable to get voice but are able to text chat. If this is the case then you can use a program such as NEC's SocksCap or FreeCap to proxify (SOCKSify) YahVox's voice connections through your university's proxy, providing that it doesn't reject the connection requests to Yahoo!'s voice servers (remote ports TCP/UDP 5000 and TCP 5001).

I do have access to the proxy via login and password, (its a university proxy).  I can't use sockscap as i'm on window 7 64bit.  I tried freecap but it keeps crashing yahoevox out.  I tried dermots version, not much change.

I can access most sites, so long as I types login and password which comes up when I use a browser.

Its a http proxy, I've tried using Socks 4 and 5 both do not work with the proxy, but I use a software called Httptunnel I got chat but no voice.

I can connect to text chat no problem but not voice.  I've tried both socks softwares you mentioned Freecap keeps crashing out yahvox, also I don't know how to get it to connect to a room even if it does launch as it launches outside of Yahelite.

I tried using free VPN servers, that doesn't work at all.

I'm at a real loss as to what to do, I just want voice through university servers.

I finally got it!  but it was with a piece of software which has a 30 day trial, its called Super Socks5cap.  I have voice from behind a very secure proxy.

This is the only solution that has worked and is VERY easy to use.

I have also added Outlook 2007 and now all my pop3 account work again.  This software is really good, but the 30 day trial is a problem...does anyone have a solution to the trial 'problem' besides the obvious $30 payment.
